newbie has questions

From: stampcramp (stampcramp@yahoo.com) | Date: 2002-06-12 01:09:20 UTC
I just read the article in Yankee magazine--think I could be easily
hooked! A couple of questions--1. Is it really bad to use a stamp
that's not hand-carved? 2. Once you've placed a box to you
regularly go and check on it? If the person who finds the box
happens to be the one to finish the notebook does he/she take it with
them? 3. What would be your best advice for getting started? Many,
many thanks.

Its more fun to use a unique stamp ... think of it as a signature
or calling card

No, but many people do. I think this is personal preference.

No.

Do an easy clue or do one with some friends or family. It might
also help to read the faq or getting started page on the lbna website.

Cheers

I'm glad to see I am not the only newbie. I was going to ask a
similar question. Is is ok to use a stamp that is not hand-carved at
first until you find a design and get something more personal made or
is it reaaly bad to change your stamp?

Also I saw someone's stamp in a geocaching logbook. It was a cute
design with a number underneath it. What was the number? I thought
it might be the number of boxes placed/found at first but that would
change all the time and not be good on a permanent stamp.

We found a letterbox by accident recently but some people came along
so we hid it again without having time to take a look at the stamps.

I use a store bought stamp as my personal stamp and
most of the boxes I planted are store bought. I have
carved some. I have seen that many people have a store
bought stamp for their personal stamp. The boxes I
planted I like to check on at least twice a year and
some closer ones even more. You can look at the LBNA
polls. There was a question about that and you can
view the results. If I found a full book,, I would
leave it there and try to contact the owner or at
least post it on the LBNA message board. I am still
rather new to letterboxing,(about 6 months) but have
been pretty busy with it and have seen a lot of boxes
and stamps. Just trying to help. Chuck (of Chuck &
Molly) P31F100X10
